Peter practices piano - Peter must be a technician of piano & not a musician. (Peter 練習修理piano.)
Hmm... Just something about the spelling. But first of all, are we talking about American English here? If yes, please ignore me. If not (ie. British English), I was always taught that the verb is spelt "practiSe".
Practices the piano and practices playing the piano both are correct in the grammar.
e.g. Peter practices the piano every day, and Peter practices playing the piano every day, they are both correct grammar, it is just you use the word/sentence structure different.
Play the piano is correct, but play piano is wrong, you shuould use "playing piano".
