I need help with an Algebra problem, please.?

Okay, I know the answer but I don't know how to work it out. I need those steps to get credit; I only know the answer because the teacher told me. >_>

d/3+5=d/4-7=-144

The parts with the slash represent a fraction, not divided by. If you could show me step by step, I'd appreciate it.

We will start from here:
d/3 + 5 = d/4 - 7

Then we will move d/4 to the left side. Because we are changing the side, we have to change the sign as well. The rule is: addition (+) becomes subtraction (-); subtraction becomes addition. d/4 is actually +d/4, we just don't write the + sign there. So to move d/4 to the left side, change the + to -.
d/3 + 5 - d/4 = -7

Now move 5 to the right side. Don't forget to change the sign (explanation same as above).
d/3 - d/4 = -7 - 5

We know -7-5 = -12 for the right side, but to solve the left side, we have to find a common denominator since we are dealing with fraction. Common denominator would be 12, so the fractions (left side) become something like this:
4d/12 - 3d/12 = -12

Now we can solve the left side.
d/12 = -12

Again, we are going to move 12 to the right side. We have to change the sign now. The rule is: division (/) becomes multiplication (x); multiplication becomes division.
d = -12 x 12

We can solve the right side easily now. So:
d = -144

Hope this is clear enough for you =)

haha cheating on your homework?
ok i will help.
multipy everything by 3 then multipy everything by 4. you will get
4d +60 = 3d - 84.
4d - 3d = -84-60
d = -144
2008-01-08 4:03 pm
d/3 + 5 = d/4 - 7
4d + 60 = 3d - 84
4d - 3d = - 84 - 60
d = - 144
2008-01-08 3:31 pm
d/3 + 5 = d/4 -7 = -144

(d +15)/3 = (d - 28)/4
4(d + 15) = 3(d-28)
4d + 60 = 3d - 84
d = -84 - 60
d = -114
2008-01-12 2:32 pm
d/3 + 5 = d/4 -7

Multiply 12 on both sides.

4d + 60 = 3d - 84
d = -84 - 60
d = -114
2008-01-12 2:29 pm
d/3 + 5 = d/4 -7
d/3 + 15/3 = d/4 -28/4
(d +15)/3 = (d - 28)/4

Cross product:
4(d + 15) = 3(d-28)
4d + 60 = 3d - 84
d = -84 - 60
d = -114

Just follow the rule about 'Order of Precedence'.

Multiplication/Division comes before Addition/Subtraction.

Are you sure you copied the problem correctly because the first grouping does not equal the second grouping if the total is --144

"the slash represent a fraction, not divided by"

Sounds like you're in big trouble....the fraction a/b is THE SAME AS a divided by b.

d/3+5=d/4-7
-5 -5 this cancels out the 5 & gives u
d/3=d/4 -12 then u gotta fine the common denominator-menaning multiply d/3 by 4/4 & d/4 by 3/3 which gives u 12 as the common demoninator so its
4d/12=3d/12 -12 subtract the 3d/12 from 4d/12 & u get
d/12= -12 multiply both by 12/1 or just 12 & u get
d= -144
glad 2 help but next time try harder

I was going to try and help, but I have NEVER seen an algebra problem with 2 equal signs in it. SERIOUSLY--what kind of algebra class are you in??? How do you come up with one answer??? Sorry.
