腕龍類的特徵極為明顯，普通恐龍的前腳大多較短，腕龍類的恐龍前腳就較長；牠們的頸部尤其長。整體外型給人有不對稱之感；就像手臂特別長，如身體的比例不相稱。
比前腳及頸長更令人驚奇的是身體的大小；當腕龍把頸子抬高，可說是龍腳類恐龍中最大的。
