x² - 2x - 3 = a² - 2a - 3x² - a² - 2x + 2a = 0
(x - a)(x + a) - 2(x - a) = 0
(x - a)[(x + a) - 2] = 0
(x - a)(x + a - 2) = 0
x = a or x = 2 - a
