How do you remove the spring pin from the lower column coupler and the stub shaft on the steering gear?

I need to replace the steering gear box on a Dodge Ram. The spring pin that anchors the steering column coupler to the stub shaft of the gear box was pressed in. I had only limited clearance to work with. Is there a special tool to do this?

What year Ram are we talking?

If I'm reading your question correctly, you're trying to get the steering column shaft off the stub shaft of the box. In my '98 (and all 2nd Gens that I've seen) the coupler is held to the stub shaft with a bolt.

Check the other side of the column, you may be looking at the wrong end of the bolt ;-) If not, are you sure that the bolt head didn't shear off making it look like a pin?

If so, you'll have to drill it out and probably replace the coupler.

If your Ram is pre-94, sorry - haven't worked on them for years.
