yes. you can be allergic to things in alcohol. you would get the normal symptoms: hives, rashes, breathing problems, sinus.
but there's also this thing where you turn red if you drink a lot of alcohol. that's mostly an asian thing though. that's not considered an allergic reaction, but your blood just rushes to your face.
Every allergic reaction is different. Even the same item I am allergic to Tequila - if a i drink it my tounge starts to itch and my throat swells up like I am going to suffocate.......... my brother is allergic to it but all that happens for him is he gets hives.
I have friend that is allergic to ALL alcohol, some jerk at a party decided she was faking and slipped something in her coke. she gets very ill - at first sheit was like she is really really drunk (even if though she only had a few sips), then she got really dizzy and her chest tightens up and she can't breath very well and had a massive migraine headache that lasts for days - sort of like a bad hangover, but really she did not have enough to be hungover.
Allergy to alcohol itself is unlikely.
You are more likely to be allergic to some of
the substances that come along with it in most drinks.
Hyper-Sensitivity to alcohol is more common.
Some people react much more strongly to the
substance than average, and should avoid it.
yes, you can be allergic to almost any substance. A true allergy involves your immune system. In such cases, your immune system mistakenly identifies a specific food or a component of that food as a harmful substance. Your immune system triggers certain cells to produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to fight the "enemy" food or food component. Possible signs and symptoms of an allergy include tingling in the mouth, hives, breathing difficulties and swelling of your lips, tongue or throat.
YES! If I drink beer, I get hives. Pretty much anything that is not clear gives me hives, rashes, cystic acne (very painful), etc. It's almost instant. I can drink vodka with relative safety, but not too much.
