機頂盒 <=> Set Top Box(Direct translation from English).
The term came around when CRT TV was common, so one can place the box on top of TV set. This is no longer applicable for LCD TV.

這是習慣,因多年來使用有線電視的解碼器大都放在電視機頂. 好像鉛筆一樣,依家唔用鉛都叫做鉛筆.
