Velocity is a vector, so you need to calculate the displacement of the ship first.Using Pyth. Theory, so east you can find out it is 13.
and then, you need to calculate the total time of travel.
(5+12)/3.4=5 sec
so, the average velocity of the ship = 13/5 =2.6 ms-1
