Does covalent compound has high melting point ?

共價化合物（covalent compounds）有兩種不同的結構，熔點（melting points）的高低要視乎結構而定。

(1) 分子結構（molecular structure 如 HCl 等）
在分子結構中，分子間以微弱的分子間引力（intermolecular forces）連在一起，故熔點低。

(2) 巨型共價結構（giant covalent structure 如 diamond 等）
在巨型共價結構中，原子以強共價鍵所形成的網絡連在一起，故熔點很高。

Iron 是 metallic element。既不是 covalent﹐又不是 compound。
