Well, my dad left us when I was 10, with a mother who was schizophrenic and alcoholic. She tortured us (tried to kill us twice) until she finally killed herself when I was 30. **I should write a book** I'm not close to my dad to this day and only see or talk to him a couple times a year (he's 80 now and thinks we are terrible kids for "ignoring" him) Would I change my parents? Well, if I could I would not have grown up to be the incredibly strong, independent, empathetic person I am today. It's what makes me a great teacher of handicapped kids. It's what makes me ME and I happen to like they way I turned out in spite. My sisters are the same way, we all turned out great, working our way through college with no help and are all professionals with wonderful families. Yes, better parents would have been easier, but we would not have turned out the way we did.
