I'm an English learner from China.
I have several questions in my English learning.
Thanks anyone who solves my questions, sincerely!
When I'm speaking English to myself, I feel pretty confident; but when I speak it to someone eles, I don't even have any sense in it, can't speak fluently. Actually, there isn't so many foreigners in my city, and my English teacher can just talk with us in Chinese. We are suffering from a lot of stress of messes of examinations; most of my classmates can read and write pretty well, while they don't speak English at all. I want to improve my English ability, but I don't have a good environment. Sometimes it makes me a little worried.
Is there any Chinese learners in your country? What do you think about our Chinese culture? Welcome to our country to participate in Beijing Olympic Games. I live in a brautiful country-Jinan, and welcome here as well.
Thank you sincerely again.

Hi,
I think If I were you I'd practise chatting to people over the internet in English (with a microphone and a program like Skype) - you don't have to know the person, just put in someone's name and explain what you want (ie. to practise your English and ask them about their life / culture and talk to them about yours etc.) - you'll probably get a few who aren't interested, but after a while you'll find someone who is I expect.
Good luck,
Tom (English teacher)
I had a friend that went to Vietnamese language school during the Vietnam war. They were only allowed to speak in Vietnamese to each other during and after school. This seems to be the best way. The more you do it verbally the more confidence you have.
As I understand how to learn another language, you only get good at it when you can "think in that language." Of course that would take many years.
People that come back home to America after visiting China say they like the people and culture. Chinese people here are looked on as good hard workers and polite. That is real positive.
I'm looking forward to watching the games.
I would not understand what you meant if you said you were getting meats on your stomach. You should say "I am gaining weight" or I"I have gained a few pounds"
hiah. tinking of chingy chang chong wan lim restaurantee..nip nip slanties.
Get your point.
Sadly, we English 'teachers' speak little or no Chinese - but why should we?
We much admire your culture - even if based on millennia of suppression of the masses - but we do things differently in the West.
Sorry you have exam stresses - but bear in mind most English-speaking nationals and foreign imports have much the same problem.
That's the beauty of the language.
you can only improve your english if you practice, interact with people who know how to speak it fluently(try the internet), along with that you have to think in that language for you to get used to it, meaning even if your just thinking about what to do for the day, think it in english that will surely get your system used to the language. and about the fact that when you speak english to yourself you feel pretty confident, but not with other people, you just need to build up your self esteem and dont be afraid to talk to them. i hope you get though your problem. best of luck.....

Yeah, sometimes "their" slang does sound confusing "our" English. Every country may have their own "style". Try to speak slow & steadily, but clearly. The respondent will follow your tone. You require more oral communication to improve.
I'm from the Dominican Republic, I have a Bachelor Degree in NYC, when I started learning English, it was the the same like you, what happen is that we are afraid to talk because we thing the people will laugh of us, the only thing you have to do is talk! no matter what talk!, in the morning try to read in English with a very hi voice, practise, practise, listen to music in English, what TV in English, the news everything in English.
Learning the words is the easy part, turning the words into a language that as bpen spocken in many dialects is a very daunting task ,If you stick to basic english you will be understood, you may find it hard to understand some one from England or the USA that as a regeonal accent. good luck.
