Yes.
You should know that osmosis is the net movement of water molecules from a region of higher water potential (less concentrated solution), to a region of higher water potential (more concentrated solution).

It takes place in living cells only when there is a concentration difference between two sides.

When the final point of osmosis is reached, there is no longer a net movement of water molecules as the two solutions have the same concentration.

but if one solution is distilled water, then is it possible ? Of course it's possible. Distilled water has the highest water potential (0). Its water molecules will move to solutions which have lower water potential (negative value).

When the concentrations of the solutions become the same, there will be no net movement of water molecules between the two sides.

lauchunyin9224 but the concentration of a solution cannot be zero, can it ? it contains solute forever. more water molecules are added to it will only lower the concentration, but it never reach to zero. How can its concentration be equal to the distilled water after osmosis ?

2008-01-01 09:28:54 補充:
When water molecules move from distilled water (water potential =0) into another solution ,eg concentrated solution (water potential = -5), the water potential of distilled water will decrease.

2008-01-01 09:29:08 補充:
It means that the water potential of distilled water is no longer 0 but may be -2.5 .Also, the water potential of the concentrated sucrose solution may raise to -2.5.Therefore, they will obtain the same water potential concentration.

2008-01-01 14:38:37 補充:
lauchunyin9224 the same water potential concentration, but not the exact concentration of the solution, right ? Yes. The water potential concentration is the same but not the exact concentration of the solution.

2008-01-01 14:38:58 補充:
Because the net flow of water will slow and finally stop as the pressure on the solution side becomes such that the movement in each direction is equal: dynamic equilibrium.

his could either be due to the water potential on both sides of the membrane being the same, or due to osmosis being inhibited by factors such as pressure potential or Osmotic pressure.

sure ,because osmosis is the side have more water molecule to the side of less water
molecule and the sucrose cannot pass ,so ,finally, ther will have same concentration
