-39/120 is a fraction obviously. To reduce, you have to find a common multiple they both share that you can divide them equally by. Heres how it works

1.) Try a few numbers, 39 is not divisible by 2 so try 3. It is.
2.) 39/3 = 13
3.) 120/3 = 40
4.) The last step is to rewrite as a fraction - 13/40

There ya go! Hope that helped!

lowest common denominator is 3... you can tell because when you add all digits together, they equal a number divisible by 3 (i.e.: 39... 3+9=12... 1+2=3) (120...1+2+0=3). so you divide 39 by 3 = 13, then divide 120 by 3 = 40. 13 is a prime number so it is reduced as far as it can go... -13/40.

reduce by a factor of three:

-39/120 = (-13 X 3) / (40 X 3) = -13/40
