Usually,place with high relief are in mainland,like China,place with high relief are in the western part of China.
The moisture and rain brought by the summer monsoon winds are the main source of rain in the year.
Rain usually come from the sea to the land in summer.
Mainland is far away form the sea.
so,when the rain cloud reach the mainland , that means place with Great height, the rain cloud become very small because it rain along the coastal area then go the the mainland.
Thats why place with high relief would not have much rain but less rain.
Beside, the distance form the sea will effect the amount of rainfall.
