I want to have 1 year overseas placement in 08-09( I study BSc Hotel Mgt), which country and hotel is suitable for learing fluent English and professional knowledge and practical skills in hotel industry?

It will be my first time to go oversea(no passport, visa)
So what things I must prepare and pay attention and the length of time in applying for those documents?

I am worried that if I spend 1 years at a poor hotel for my placement. Not only the time but also the money will be wasted…

I studied Hotel Management in UK some years back, 1 year placement in a hotel was a must and it was also a great experience that you would ever forget, when you got back to reality.

First thing you have to do is to consult your lecturer if there is any advice on the location chosen, i.e. Melbourne, Gold Coast, Sidney, etc since you prefer Australia. when you decide the hotel you have selected, you ask your lecturer to send the hotel a letter on behalf of you and asking if a working placement can be offered, well, if their reply is positive, you need to check with the Australian Consulate what type of document they require for obtaining the working visa.

I shall not worry about the hotel chosen, since the experience is the top priority for the placement, the purpose of the placement is for you to see how the corporation run, you jog down everything you see and anything you think you need to rectify or improve as a management. After placement you need to prepare a report which counts a great deal, well, you will also get a reference letter from the hotel. Being a management trainee, you will be assigned to work on different level of area through the hotel, sure you will get paid.
