1a)the fastest possible rate of totation of a planet is that for shich the gravitational force on material at the equator just barely provides the centripetal force needed for the rotation. why?

b)find the corresponding shortest period of rotation.

a)
if the rate of rotation is faster then the maxmium rotation speed ,
the gravitional force act on the material is not enough to support the circular motion of that object. Then the material will move away from the planet , ie. the planet will be destructed )
(Similar to the case that the car is entering to a bend with a high velocity , the car will slip outwards)

b)
g = rw^2
g = r(2 Pi / T )^2
sqrt(g / r) = 2 Pi / T
T = 2 Pi sqrt (r / g)
