HKCEE 與 GCSE的A-F等級

HKCEE Grade C = GCSE O-Level Pass (E). Therefore if you get A, max grade in GCSE is C.

Syllabus A - if you get C = HKCEE E Grade = Fail in GCSE (Hence you need to obtain A grade to pass GCSE)

Basically speaking, UK colleges will still accept you whether you pass or not (as long as you dont fail alot), but they may impose condition on you such as :-
1/ Complete a summer english course before start of term and maybe take IELTS as well. The course is usually about 5-8weeks depends on how bad your english is.
2/ Take on a foundation course for 1 yr
3/ Take IELTS and obtain about 5.5 or 6 out of 9

Actually if you want to know if you pass GCSE, your HKCEE result certificate on the last column will show whether you pass GCSE equivalent by a Y for Pass and N for fail.

Almost all HK students know it is much more difficult to obtain good grades at HKAL HKCEE than the UK / Australia equivalents and SAT etc. of the US. There are quite a no. of 'wealthy' parents who am afraid of challenge sent their students to overseas before HKDSE/HKCEE/HKAL till they children finish Year 1 , then for apply top universities in HK through non-Jupas routes, this is extremely unfair to those study hard for the HKAL/HKCEE. E.g. the high proportion of stduents from overseas Year 1 admitted through non-Jupas rounte in the Architectural program in the Chinese University in Hong Kong throughout the past decade have drawn fire from a lot of parents whose children are competing for school spaces via Jupas route and such issue has been discussed in the HK Legislative Council in recent years with a no. of statistics. Children of those "less aggressive and less cunning" parents lose precious school places just becasue their parents do not know how to "circumvent" the HKDSE/HKCEE/HKAL(not necessarily because they are less wealthy! ). What an unfair practice! If I were an employer, I will definitely screen out those Hong Kong graduates but with no HKDSE/HKCEE/HKAL results.
