chemistry model making, use of material?

our chemistry teacher requires us to make a model on giant ionic structure, and environmentally friendly material should be used, what material I should use???It is very confusing, please help.!

try making homemade playdough using salt, cornstarch, water, & foodcoloring. There's lot's of recipies. (Styrofoam is NOT environmentally friendly - made from petroleum.)
