open a full screen all black image (to check if there's dead bright spot)
open a full screen all white image (to check if there's dead black spot)

for some notebooks like Dell, Your may press Enter - choose Diagnostics during power on. You may run a quick test to check hardware.

press F2 during power to enter setup, check the memory size, hard disk size against your those listed in the invoice
