1.A grocer bought 5000 oranges at $4000 . He sold 4000 of them at$1.2 each. The rest were sold at a discount of 40% on the cost.
a) Find the total amount of money he received.
b) Find the profit percent.

4000 x $1.2 + (5000-4000) x [($4000/5000) x 40% ]
=$4800 + 1000 x ($0.8/1) x 40%
=$(4800 + 320)
=$5120

b) The profit percent is
[(5120-4000)/4000] x 100%
=[1120/4000] x 100%
=(112/4)%
=28%

The total amount of money he received
=4000x1.2+(5000-4000)x(1.2x60%)
=4800+1000x0.72
=4800+720
=$5520

The profit percent
=5520-4000/4000 x 100%
=38%
