What is it NOT warm enought to swim in Miami?

HI! - my husband & I want to go to Miami during the Winter and we're wondering if the ocean is still warm enough to swim in at the end of December or even January?

Our schedules may be restricted to either early January or late February/early March -- can someone please tell me which of these two time frames is generally warmer for swimming?

Thanks! :)

Its almost always hot in Miami, right now its hot and if I jumped in the pool it would be fine. Cold at first (always like that) but then you warm up.

One thing you need to be aware of and know before you swim in the water is rip tides. Miami weather can turn nasty and the water reacts with it. Learn about how to swim when the rip tides are active.

Don't worry though, even if you came when a cold front was here, you could still swim and sunbathe. Weather is unpredictable so just got with your sandals and enjoy the Hot weather.

Hope this helped

Average Water temperature never goes below 70F in Miami January if might be a little bit cold around 72F Late febuary around 74-76F So compared to most of the world Miami is still warm enough to swim in all year round.

Miami is certainly one of the most popular holiday spots and with hotelbye you will find out more. Miami has anything for all; from the trendy nightlife of South Beach, bejeweled by the attention chocolate of the Art Deco section around the bustle of Calle Ocho and the highly caffeinated energy of Little Havana. The Art Deco District brings right back thoughts of an earlier amount of time in Florida with its perfectly repaired 1930s Art Deco structures and is really a place well visited exactly like Bayside Marketplace. This place is just a big outside style mall with increased than 150 specialty and tourist shops, numerous bars and restaurants, and daily stay entertainment.

on the weather channel the give the water temps.. and the water in central & south florida is in the 70's. usually the water temp is bout the same as the average air temp. So yes, int he summer the water temp does get to the 80's-90's. they're only measuring the surface temp of the water too...

I'm from NY originally, and 72 is about the water temperature in August. If you come from a cold climate then the waters feel what you're normally used to in the summer anyway. We do get cold fronts in January where it may dip down to the 60's during the day, and of course those days you'll be too cold, but the temp comes back up in a day or two.

Please don't listen to Razzi..he has some hang up against Miami.

Usally in december and those times its pretty warm in was 87 the other day.
By january we get cold and warm days so it depends, most hotels have either a heated swimming pool or other facltiys to keep you warm in the water.
But i would say the water would be warm by that time considering the tempuratures we have had latlly.

Have a nice time =]

I'm from here, so as soon as the water temp drops below 75, I'm running away shivering. It depends on where you're from. The Canadian tourist are in the water all winter!

To me its too cold to swim until like May, but I'm a big baby and I've lived here way too long. I know my relatives from Pa. used to come down for the winter and swim in our pool or the beach when we were all running around in sweaters...so I guess it depends what you're used to. I would say more towards early March to be on the safe side.
