can someone explain to me how you do this equation?

the equation of the line is 3x - 4y =12

i need to do linear equations.

the formula is y=mx+b

so would my answer be y= -3/4-3?
i'm not sure if it's right

3x-4y=12
-3x -3x
--------------
-4y=-3x+12
/-4 /-4 /-4
----------------
y = 3/4x-3

Make sure you watch your negatives...you had the right idea, you just divided incorrectly

let me see...

3x-4y=12
-4y=-3x+12
y=(3/4)x+3

no you did it wrong.

Your original equation is 3x-4y=12

so to solve that:

1. Subtract 3x from both sides to get:

-4y= -3x+12

2. Divide both sides by -4 to get your final answer.

y= 3/4x+3

so technically you did it right but you got the signs wrong. and you left off the X. make sure you don't do that on the test otherwise you'll be marked off.

no, it's not right

i hope this helps..

3x - 4y = 12
-4y = -3x + 12
y = -3x/(-4) + 12/(-4)
y = (3/4)x - 3
so...
3/4 is the slope
-3 is the y intercept

3x - 4y = 12
3x - 3x - 4y = 12 - 3x
-4y = 12 - 3x
(-4y)/-4 = (12 - 3x)/-4
y = 12/-4 + -3x/-4
y = -3 + 3x/4

Remember negatives/negatives are positives.

What you need to do is to isolate y onto the left hand side

3x-4y=12
-4y=-3x+12
y=(-3x+12)/-4
y=(3/4)x-3\

its not what you had
