OK

X/3 - 1/6 = 3/5 ; need a common denominator. let's use 6

2x/6 -1/6 = 3/5

2x-1/6 = 3/5; now multiply each side by 6

2x-1 = 18/5; now multiply each side by 5

10x -5 = 18
10x = 23

x = 23/10

Let's Check

(23/10)/3 - 1/6 = 3/5??
23/30 - 1/6 = 3/5 ??
23/30 - 5/30 = 3/5 ??
18/30 = 3/5 ??
3/5 = 3/5 YES!!!

Hope that helps.

Start by figuring the common denominator (for 3, 6 and 5). In this case it is 30. So multiply both sides by 30:

30(x/3) - 30(1/6) = 30(3/5)
10x - 5 = 18

Now add 5 to both sides:
10x = 23

Divide both sides by 10
x = 23/10

As a mixed fraction:
x = 2 3/10

(Or as a decimal, x = 2.3)

x/3 = 3/5+1/6
x = 3[3/5+1/6]
= 3 [ 23/30]
= 23/10
= 2.3
