A blanket loses 10% of its length and 8% of its width after washing. The percentage loss in area is??

John's daily working hours have increased from 8 hours to 10 hours but his hourly pay has decreased by 25%. Find the percentage change in John's daily income.

1 let x be the length and y be the width.
xy-(0.9x)(0.92y)
=xy-0.828xy
=0.172xy

ans=17.2%
2 let x be the hourly paid.
(8x-10(0.75x))/8
=(8x-7.5x)/8
=0.0625x
ans=6.25%

The percentage loss in area
=[xy-(1-10%)x(1-8%)y]/xy*100%
=17.2%

John's daily working hours have increased from 8 hours to 10 hours but his hourly pay has decreased by 25%. Find the percentage change in John's daily income.

let the original hourly pay be $x
his original daily income =8x
his new daily income =10(1-25%)x=7.5x<8x
the percentage loss in John's daily income.
=(8x-7.5x)/8x*100%
=6.25%
