How long do you wait before calling employers back?

Does the employer have a web page or somewhere else that you can find out how quickly they are trying to fill the position?

It never hurts to call the HR department after a few days just to ask if they received your resume, you don't necessarily need to press them for an interview at that point but now you know if they have your paperwork. That way they also know that you are interested in the position.

It depends on a lot of factors. What kind of job? Are there likely to be lots of openings on a regular basis -as in retail? Was there an application deadline that is still a few weeks away? Did they give you a timeline regarding when they would be looking at resumes, filling the position, etc.

I'd wait at least 3 working days if you have no clue and this is unskilled labor. More for a professional position. We don't have enough information. Is this a seasonal position (Christmas help)?

I think a few days is appropriate. Give the company a call and say you want to verify that your application was received. If it is a retail establishment see if the store manager is available to speak with, or find out when he/she will be in and stop by dressed nicely as if for an interview. Don't wait too long. You don't want to be excluded from the interview process because someone else was persistent.

Depends on how bad you want the job? My daughter applied and got the jobs she's had by pestering the employer a couple of days per week. It show them how much she wanted the job. Sometime it has to do with a position becoming available and she was the first person they called and she started pretty much the same week she applied. If you snooze to long you could miss out.

One week. Anything more than that and the application can very well be tossed in the out bin.
