Why do japanese women almost always wear pantyhose and western women don't??

interesting, i'm an asian, currently studying in Russia. First ppl tend to dress according to traditions and the way they were raised. Peer pressure also plays a role. U will mostly follow wat ur frens wear during teenage. In Russia, girls have been wearing pantyhose all the time since they were kids. Till they r old. Maybe cos it's cold here. In japan, it's a manners to wear hosiery when u go to visit someone or work. It's juz the tradition.

Japanese women are very sophisticated and they want to look and feel professional. Since they are, in my opinion, beyond the gender bias, they have to be as professional as the men. But, society requires them to be apart from the men. The men do not want them to wear business suits/pants & women want to make damn sure that anyone they do business with, that they know they are dealing with a woman. This is the best rational answer I can come up with. The pantyhose is just part of their outfit. Fine by me.

Concerning professional and work attire the Japanese are far more formal that we in the west often are. It would be considered "unkempt" and not clean to cover your legs in some fashion.

Because they know that bare legs are for low life's.They have a sense of class and taste.Western women can sure use a lesson or two from them.

Not sure where in the west you are from, but women wear them where I live. Having said that, I suspect work attire tends to be more formal in Japan - imho, we have gone a little too casual in the US, although I definitely see more hosiery lately, both at the office and with casual wear. I have been wearing them more often myself, but that's mostly b/c my bf likes it ;)

what are you talking about? a lot of western women wear pantyhose on a daily basis (like my mom). their race does not make a differnce.

One reason may be that they tend to get cold faster. (because they usually have smaller frames than western women)

Asian women tend to be more conservative whereas western women are more open and free! Asian women also like to stay white or pale in skin tone whereas western women like to be tan.

Total guess here, since I really don't know any Japanese women.....but I would say because it is proper attire. The Japanese seem know how to dress. I work in the USA in an office and everyone wears hose when they wear a skirt at the office unless it is summer.

I think you should get to know more women.

I think it depends on the age group. Like my mom, and most of her friends, and people her age do wear them. I do tend to wear them. Alot of it has to do with how you were raised, and tradition.
