Carbon dioxide is produced in lime and cement manufacture as a result of the heating of limestone, where limestone (calcium carbonate) is heated to produce lime (calcium oxide). The final amount of CO2 produced varies depending the type of cement being made.
CaCO3 --> CaO + CO2
