3. Overdose of Zopiclone may present with excessive sedation, depressed respiratory function which may progress to coma and possibly death. Zopiclone combined with alcohol, opiates or other CNS depressants may be even more likely to lead to fatal overdoses. Zopiclone overdosage can be treated with the benzodiazepine receptor antagonist flumazenil which displaces zopiclone from its binding site on the benzodiazepine receptor and therefore rapidly reverses the effects of zopiclone. Death certificates show that fatal zopiclone overdoses are on the rise.

佐匹克隆（Zopiclone），化學名是6-(5-氯吡啶-2-基)-7-[(4-甲基哌嗪-1-基)羰氧基]-5,6-二氫吡咯[3,4-b]吡嗪-5-酮，化學式C17H17ClN6O3，是一種精神科藥物，最初以商標名稱「Imovane」上市。佐匹克隆在香港被藥物濫用者俗稱「白瓜子」。它在醫學上用作醫治失眠的安眠藥，長期服用可上癮。

佐匹克隆雖然在BZ1受體上產生作用，它卻不屬於苯二氮䓬類藥物，而是一種環吡咯酮衍生物。

佐匹克隆的專利期限已屆滿，其它藥廠也推出仿製藥在市場出售。開發該藥的藥廠在2005年將佐匹克隆的其中一種有藥效的立體異構體Eszopiclone推出市場發售，品牌名為「Lunesta」，並取得Eszopiclone的專利。

在世界絕大多數地方，民眾需經醫生供應或需醫生處方到藥房配藥，才可取得佐匹克隆。2005年4月，美國將佐匹克隆列為列表IV的受管制物質，受到更嚴格的管制。


用量
成人臨睡前口服7.5毫克；老年人在用藥初期服量為臨睡前口服3.75毫克，其後可按需要增加至7.5毫克；兒童不宜服用。


不良反應

比較常見的﹕
消化系統 - 味覺改變、口乾。
神經系統 - 昏睡、頭痛、疲倦。

比較少見的﹕
消化系統 - 胃灼熱、便秘、腹瀉、噁心、口臭、食慾改變、嘔吐、腹痛、消化不良等。
神經系統 - 激動、焦慮、記憶力衰退、暈眩、渴睡、無力、興奮、抑鬱、產生幻覺等。
