I think you are asking what is Applied Maths (NOT Add. Math...or you won't post the question here)....

Applied Maths is a subject that studies some common applications of mathematics in several disciplines. For example, physics, economics, statistics etc....

To be precise, in AL examination, applied math has two syllabus (AL and AS)
AL syllabus includes:
(i) Newtonian Mechanics
(Which is roughly the first part as in AL physics, but mathematically oriented)

(ii) Differential equations
(A differential equation is an equation involving derivatives, e.g. dy/dx = f(x) is one such kind of differential equations, you will study more type of it here)

(iii) Numerical methods
(In some situation you cannot solve a problems by applying standard methods, such as quadratic formula, integration by anti-derivative etc... In practice you need to apply some approximation method to get approximate answers)

(iv) Statistics
(You will study more about probability, include some theory on probability, and their distribution, besides, you will learn some statistics theory such as estimation, hyprothesis testing etc...)

For AS syllabus, you only need (ii) to (iv).
