One number is twice another, and five times the smaller added to three times the greater amount to 143; find the numbers.

Let x be the smaller number. Then, the larger number is 2x.
5x + 3(2x) = 143
11x = 143
x = 13.
Therefore, the two numbers are 13 and 26.
