海星外表型態特徵 ：

海星綱，管足吸盤海星類身體成五角形或扁平的星狀，由數隻輻射狀的腕足聯結一個不很明顯的體盤構成。大部份的海星都是五隻腕足，但某些種類則可多達數十隻。口位於體盤的腹面，腕足中央各有一道步帶，由步帶中可伸出管足，是牠們最主要的運動及攝食構造，大多數種類管足末端有發達的吸盤。

生態習性 ： 海星綱的胃可外翻至體外消化食物，有的種類肉食性，以捕食軟體動物、海葵、珊餬，甚至其他海星為食，有的則以底藻為食物。某些海星具有驚人的再生能力，不僅能再生斷掉的腕足，甚至能由斷下的腕足再生成一隻完整的新個體。

海星生態環境 ： 臺灣附近海域的海星，在潮間帶及淺水海域常見的種類有藍指海星、多篩指海星、花冠海燕、呂宋棘海星、尖棘篩海盤車、擬淺盤海燕以及飛白楓海星等，另外在珊瑚礁潛水時則偶而可見到棘冠海星、麵包海星以及棘疣海星。淺海沙地上拖獲的海星主要為槭海星及砂海星較多，偶可捕得蛇海星類。較深海域的海星主要以瘤海星及角海星類為主，常見的種類包括中華五角海星、顆粒花海星、光滑花海星、窄花海星等，其中光滑花海星在水深200~300公尺左右似乎極為普遍，經常在底拖漁獲中大量出現。顆粒花海星體型較大， 也是經常出現之種類。
