wow 2 litres is a LOT of blood to lose. what was the outcome? I think it would be very difficult to resuscitate this person as the amount of volume lost is significant. however I have worked traumas where we literally "dumped" bags of blood into a patient and they recovered normally. a lot depends on the physical condition, body temperature and other variables. I've been an ER/trauma nurse for just over 10 years.....we don't generally differentiate between a minor vs major resus.....we have code yellows or blues to determine the amount of personnel needed. where i work, this would have been a code blue....requiring two or more docs, all available nurses and ancillary staff. a major rescitation indeed. more than likely extreme measures were needed to at the very least stabilize this person.
