A radio transmission tower is 120 feet tall. How long should a guy wire be if it is to be attached 14 feet from the top and is to make an angle of 20 with the ground? Give your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot.

The side opposite the angle is the tower itself (minus 14 feet)sin(20)= 114/length
so
length = 106/sin(20)
or about 310 feet
By the way, doesn't this class talk about significant digits? How can the answer ask for 4 significant digits when the values in the problem itself only have 2 significant digits?

A rt triangle its height 120 and another triangle with height 106 making an angle 20 with the base.these two triangles have the same base length. you calculate using trignometric ratios.

sin20 = length / (120-14)
length = 106sin20
= use calculator i dont have one with me at the moment
remember the wire is attached 14 ft from the top, so we must subtract that from the 120ft tall tower
