Air pollution usually means the air is mixed with some chemical substances that may harm to the environment or our lifes. Most of those substances are come from factories' burning process or cars; and air pollution is also a serious problem in HK.

The air pollution problems are very serious, especially in urban areas. The exhaust gases from the factories and vehicles pollute the air.

Air pollution is a chemical, physical (e.g. particulate matter), or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. The atmosphere is a complex, dynamic natural gaseous system that is essential to support life on planet earth. Stratospheric ozone depletion due to air pollution has long been recognized as a threat to human health as well as to the earth's ecosystems.

First of all, thanks for introducing these 2 great people to me. i have to get their books some day!

Secondly, the 2 quotes about learning english as a second language really have highlighted our problem. or, my problem! :) The more complicated the sentence is, the more difficult for others to understand what I want to say exactly. This happened to me alot when i had to communicate with people by email.

As for " 中國人寫英文，尋章摘句，多用深字", I wonder about Chinese writing Chinese, what's the standard in school these days? Do students get higher marks for using fancy words? I always think there is a relation between the our attitude to writing Chinese and writing English. When I was a student, I could not tell the difference :)

and as a hong kong student, I can answer " 香港的學生甚麼時候才覺悟呢?"

When we don't need to use english solely for exams :) When we are really using the language to communicate with people. When we really want and care about whether the english speaking people would understand what we want to say.
