Hewlett Packard is a one of the world largest electronic goods and computer hardware manufacturers were looking for a logistics service provider, who could offer them full visibility of their purchasing components and supply chains. They required visibility from the raising of the manufacturing order through to delivery to the end customer, down at product serial number level. It is because this is not their core business.
The visibility needed to include provision for drop shipments directly to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and end customers from the factories. Additionally views of the holding and reporting of stock at an East Asia Distribution Centre (EDC) (until required by the final customer) and the inbound and outbound movements to and from the EDC were required.
Whoever could provide and supply the service and information visibility would succeed in gaining this prestigious business.
Global competition has reached every corner of the world. To survive in this highly demanding
and competitive marketplace, manufacturers must reduce their inventory turns as well as increase
more flexibility in meeting customer requirements. To satisfy the needs of the customers and to
improve flexibility at the same time is very difficult. It will address the importance of
reducing inventory in providing a higher return on investment. A new approach called "Multiple
Freeze Fences" will also be introduced in managing manufacturing resources planning
systems. This new approach can reduce inventory substantially and provide more flexibility to the
manufacturers.
The logistics services provider chose Supply Chain Management Solutions to gain this significant client account and then to progressively enhance the information visibility features.
The manufacturing locations based in Japan, the Philippines and Malaysia would be linked with the EDC and the logistics services provider client's Singapore Head Office through the manufacturing order reference placed on the factory. This would include provision for the visibility of drop shipments directly to the end customers and OEM's.
The EDC would be linked to the logistics services provider client's Singapore Head Office for dispatches and to all East Asian end customers through the dispatch order, ensuring that products being 'called off' would be immediately visible and easily tracked through to the final delivery.
