Hong Kong Railway Museum-Back to the Past

The Hong Kong Railway Museum is an interesting place to visit. It is in the town centre of Tai Po Market. It is convenient to go there either by train or by bus.
In the old days, the Hong Kong Railway Museum was a railwy station. It was the Tai Po Market Railway Station. Although it was not a very big railway station, it was busy. Villagers in Tai Po went ther to take the train to Kowloon. People from the city also got off there to go to Tai Po.
When more and more people moved to Tai Po, the old trains could not take so many passengers. They were slow too. The government decided to have mordern trains and bigger railway stations. They built a new railway station in Tai Po. The Tai Po Market Railway Station was not in use any more. It became a museum in December 1985.
The Hong Kong Railway Museum is an open-air museum. The main exhibits are outdoors and not in the building. There is a steam locomotive outside the Museum. There are six carriages too. They are interesting because they look so different from the trains we travel on nowadays.
In the past, trains ran on steam. The steam moved the engine in the locomotive, and the locomotive pulled the carriages along the railway. When a train passed by, it was very noisy and the locomotive gave out a lot of steam too.
Admission to the Hong Kong Railway Museum is free, and there are guided tour services for group visits.
