Q1 Statistics of a recent HKAL Examination shows that 16200 candidates have met the minimum requiremements to enter university. This number made up 48% of the total number of candidates.
(a)(i)
Find the total number of cendidates.
(a)(ii)
The number of female candidates is 16% more than that of male candidates.Find the number of male candidates

(a)(i) Total number of candidates = 16200/48% = 16200/0.48 = 33750
(ii)Let x be number of male candidates and (33750-x) be the number of female candidates.
33750-x = (1+16%)x
33750 - x = 1.16x
2.16x = 33750
x = 15625
Number of male candidates is 15625.
