Is it possible that if you weigh yourself immediately after a workout, you will weigh more than you should?

For example, yesterday I weighed myself before I ran about 2 miles and did about 100 crunches/50 pushups and i weighed 191 pounds...today i weighed myself after the same workout and I weighed 194 pounds. Is it possible to gain that much weight in a day, or is the discrepancy due to having just worked out?

Depends on how much water did you drink/loss during the workout. True, by working out, you'll loose fat and gain muscle, but not instantly.

Probably because you are sweaty and as you work out, I know your feet and hands have a tendency to swell among other areas. More than likely you will weigh more after a work out.

In my boxing days, just before weigh in ceremony some boxers, in order to weigh less, to be in lower weight category, used to exercise hard, such as skipping, while wearing warm clothes. This would make them sweat a lot. this would cause temporary reduction in weight by 2-3 pounds. I donot think one can put on weight to extent of 3 pounds in a day.

Well, I am not sure of the phenomenon, however, your muscles are still probably tensing, working, and having a blood rush (good job!)
And also, muscle weighs more than fat, so with your muscles still reacting to the workout (probably), it makes you weigh more than you should.
However, this shouldn't be a problem because it's the fat percentage which should make you worry :]

it depends what your doing.
but i can guarantee that if you weighed yourself a few hours later, or the next day, you wouldnt stay at that 194pound mark.

its the same with exercise..
if you have a hard solid session..
you could lose about 8pounds per session..
but that is because you havent lost all of your water inside your body..
and once you have a meal after it and drink water..
you will go up to your normal weight.

but in your case..
the reason you weighed more is because during a workout,
your muscles expand and get tensed,
therefore they are bigger,
and muscle weighs more then fat,
which means you will be weighing more as your muscles are contracting continuously,
if you weighed yourself after your muscles have contracted,
you should be at your normal weight.

if you plan on gaining weight,
just eat more calories then you burn,
thats the only thing,
and visa versa for losing weight
good luck mate!
