over 和 above 分別

Over = As preposition 1. higher than; above in position, number, authority etc 高于…，（位置、數目、權為等）在…之上
For example: Hang that picture over the fireplace; He's over 90 years old.

As preposition 2. from one side to another, on or above the top of; on the other side of 從一邊到另一邊，在…頂上，在…的另一邊
For example: He jumped over the gate; She fell over the cat; My friend lives over the street.

As preposition 3. covering 蓋住…
Example: He put his handkerchief over his face.

As preposition 4. across 遍及
Example: You find people like him all over the world.

As preposition 5. about 關于
Example: a quarrel over money

As preposition 6. by means of 通過…方法
Example: He spoke to her over the telephone.

As preposition 7. during 在…期間
Example: Over the years, she grew to hate her husband.

As preposition 8. while having etc 正當…時候
Example: He fell asleep over his dinner.

Over As adverb 1. higher, moving etc above 高于…
Example: The plane flew over about an hour ago.

As adverb 2. used to show movement, change of position 用來表示移動，變換位置
Example: He rolled over on his back; He turned over the page.

As adverb 3. across 越過
Example: He went over and spoke to them.

As adverb 4. downwards 向下，反面地
Example: He fell over.

As adverb 5. higher in number etc 在數量上高于
Example: for people aged twenty and over

Above = As preposition (介系詞,前置詞)= 1. in a higher position than
在…上面.
For example: a picture above the fireplace
2. As preposition = greater than 大於
For example: The child's intelligence is above average.

3. As preposition = too good for 超出…之外
For example: The police must be above suspicion.

Above = 1. As adverb (副詞) = higher up 在…上面
For example: seen from above

2. Adverb = (in a book etc) earlier or higher up on the page 一頁的上方
For example: See above.

Under = less than, or lower in rank than 在…之下
