'Cheers ' doesn't mean 'thank you'. It's more like 'bye' , 'bye for now' in an informal way. You can also see people write in email or informal letter among friends e.g.

Cheers 普遍用於祝酒的時候, 有祝你健康的意思, 亦可以向人道別時講, such like: Cheers! See you tomorrow! 多數係朋輩之間 熟朋友至親之間用, 如果係formal 一些, 同老師老細, 長輩, 唔多熟的朋友, 普通客套d都係用goodbye!
