Buying a 2007 or 2008 model car?

There are a lot of things to consider before you choose.

Do you trade cars often, if so, then you would want the newer car since resale would be higher when you trade. If you keep the car more than several years then it doesn't matter that much and the 07 would be a better bet.

Take into consideration the new features on the 08, is there some new option or feature that you just have to have? Is the 08 model that much better? Has it been redesigned for the model year?

Look for discounts on all of the models that you are considering. do a price comparasion and determine the actual cost difference between the two.

if they both are brand new, i'd say go with the 2007 unless you want to spend the extra money for having the newest car. cars are terrible investments. the moment you buy it, it's value decreases, and keeps decreasing. definately go with the 2007. the only thing i would pay attention to is the warrentee.. it a year of it wear off while the car sat on the lot?

The difference isn't just price.

Look at the Honda Accord for example.... the 2008 is completely redesigned and reengineered. So you get much more for your money.

Plus the 2008 is already discounted over $2000 at local dealers.

And don't forget that 2007 has already depreciated a whole year in resale value......

Don't assume a 2007 is the better deal. They may be offering special incentives for the new model.

The new model will have more available choices on the lot. With the 2007 you get what ever is left, not much choice in colors or options.

Looking at your question, I find two things. First you put the 08 models of the Camry, Prius, snd Accord as well as the 07 Corolla, why not the 08 Corolla? the has the two best midsize cars available and a *small* car If you want to include a small car on rhe list, add the Civic. Right now the 08 Accord is something that no other Accord has *ever* been... *SEXY* . Pick two, drive them both and work with the Honda or Toyota Salesmanto get the best deal on the 07's. (a long as the dealers have 07s the 08s will be around MSRP)

When most people get the option of buying a 2007 over 2008, they usually go for the 2008 due to the warranty. If you will most likely due to 50,000 miles before the 4 years, you might as well go for the 2007 because you can get a bargain on your car. If the 2008 has some changes in which will affect you at all, you might as well go for the 2008.

Oscar is not correct. And anyone can be a sales mgr these days. A car is considered new as long as it has not been titled. A new 2007 "leftover" is a new car. In fact, it could have been built in august of 2007. How is that used? To answer your question:

A 2007 model will be discounted heavily by the dealer, but you will have much less of a choice of colors and options. It will also be worth less down the road. You should check and see when the car was delivered to the dealer, if it's been there a year or so, try and find out why, it could have sap, bird crap, cooked into the paint if it's been on the lot so long. Personally, unless there is a 5k difference on a 30k car, i'd go for the 2008.

If you are leasing, go for the 2007.
