That is kinda slow. You would need a new motherboard and CPU and RAM to go faster. That's a whole new computer.

But check your system the on-line SCAN TOOL at Crucial.com

This is relatively old architecture for a PC. PC133 is quite slow by todays standards and I am betting that you motherboard would not support any more than 512mb RAM if that. Unless you can 'find' some ram, you are out of luck as this type would cost heaps now. But yes, increasing RAM will improve performance in general.

Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:

lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

it also depends on what softwares you install and how much you know about configuration of your pc .these are more important things which makes you happier pc user
learn more about windows which is still exothic to home users and even professionals

Relatively old PC133, the motherboard could say 1 GB in total supported but regardless of that you probably hit the sweet spot already for amount of memory that is actually of some use. Little point of going higher than 256 MB. And just waste going higher than 512.

I recently refurnishes my old PC100 with 256 MB, it is about $20 from some guy on eBay, quite pricey compare to current stuff although that was only thing I needed for refurbishing.

id have to agree in the long run buying new ram would be a waste of cash at this point its an old pc why spend 100 on more ram when you can buy an computer tower for 300 delivered? heres an idea iv bought 4 computers from theses guys and there very reliable and upgradeable for quite sometime. they dont come with an os but you can buy xp for $80 on new egg and or go for vista or buy the os from the computer company listed here http://www.ecollegepc.com/

well, more ram always help, especially if u re using 256MB or less

if u re using WinXP, i would suggest using a min of 512MB to run it smoothly, 1GB or more if u plan to play games

but as far as i know, SDR-SDRAM (SDRAM for short) is expensive and slow as compared to the current DDR2 SDRAM (DDR2 for short), as SDRAM is based on technilogy developed 2 generations ago, and very few, if not none, memory producers still produce SDRAM

but whether it is worth the investment depends entirely on you

Increasing your Ram is just wastage of money.
you should try buying a new system.

Upgrading your ram would help a little, and you would see programs running a bit smoother. But if u wanted to see real improvement, upgrade cpu, ram, and hdd speed, and if u play games, graphics card too =)
