what will happen when calcium place in zinc nitrate solution?
更新1:

actually I know displacement will take place, what I do concern is calcium also will react with water contained in the solution, so which reaction is more preferable? or both occur at the same time?

The ionic equation for the reaction:
Ca + Zn2+ --- > Ca2+ + Zn
Displacement reaction will occur since calcium is more reactive than zinc.
Here are the observations:
The calcium metal will decrease in size ( since it loses electrons and becomes calcium ions ).
A layer of grey metal will coat onto the metal surface ( since zinc ions gain electrons and become zinc metal).

You're right, both reactions occur at the same time.
