what does vw golf mk 5 red spanner warning light mean?

on my vw golf mk5 there is red spanner warning light next to the mileage indicator and a dong sound when i turn the key and then it goes off...what does that mean?

It means the Dealer's bank account has dropped below a preset level...

It is most certainly the service indicator.

the same happened on my mk 5 last week and hasnt stopped, i looked in the user manual and it just says warning mechanical problem, but im sure its the service

it means it is due 4 a service when you take it in 4 a service the garage will turn the light off

emition problems...topping oil might solve the probs.otherwise a trip to garage....
