A group of students were to choose between playing table-tennis and football.The number of students choosing table-tennis was three times that of those choosing football.Asking 12 students who chose table-tennis to play football would make the number of players for each game equal.Find the number of students who chose table-tennis originally.(ans:36)



Jim has 25 sweets and May has 55.How many sweets must Jim give May so that May will have 4 times as many as Jim?(ans;9)

Let no. of student plaing table tennis be x,
.... football be y,
x=3y --------------------(1)
x-12=y+12 -----------------(2)

Put (1) into (2),
3y-12=y+12
2y=24
y=12
Put it into (1),
x=3(12)
=36

Let the no. john should give is x,
4(25-x) = 55+x
100-4x = 55+x
5x = 45
x = 9
