the cost of a book is $(a+1)and that of a pen is $(a+2).if the total cost of the total cost of the book and the pen is $33,what is the value of a?

(a+1)+(a+2)=33a+1+a+2=33
2a+3=33
2a=30
a=15
Therefore the value of a is equal to 15.
