2 times x is subtracted from 200 means 200 - 2xThe difference is then increased by 20% means (200 - 2x)(1 + 20%)
decreasing x by 40% means x(1 - 40%)
Therefore, (200 - 2x)(1 + 20%) = x(1 - 40%)
=> (200 - 2x)(1.2) = 0.6 x
=> 2(200 - 2x) = x
=> 5x = 400
=> x = 80
