Ionization enthalpy is the energy required to remove 1 mole of e- of an element at its gaseous state under standard condition.Standard condition means that 25 degree celsius and 1 atmopheric pressure. However, the state some elements at 25 degree celsius such as sodium are not gaseous. What is wrong?

the definition is not wrong
before measuring the ionization enthalpy
one more step should be conducted
that is atomization
after atomization the Na will exist in gas and atom form
therefore it fits the definition of ionzation enthalpy
