why does argon consist of individual atoms intead of molecules of two or more atoms ?

Because argon atom has 18 electrons with the arrangement of 2,8,8 for the first three shells. Since the outer shell is fully filled, it does not tend to form molecules with another argon or other atoms. It is one of the noble gases while all the others also have fully filled outer shell.

he outer shell is fully filled, therefore, it can't react with anything so it doesn't form molecules with another argon or other atoms.
It is a noble gases and all noble gases are stable (non reactive).
