I have a few questions about organic compound.

1. explain alcohol classification using primary, secondary and tertiary carbon attachment?
2. oxidation of alcohol by chromic acid distinguishes? if oxidation occurs, what classes of compounds form?
3. aldehydes can be oxidized to form?
4. what is a functional group?

answer should be in English!!!

1. Explain alcohol classification using primary, secondary and tertiary carbon
attachment?

Primary ,secondary and teritary reveal the number of alkyl group attach the hydroxy
carbon.
eg: methanol is a primary alcohol
propan-2-ol is a secondary alcohol
2-methylpropan-2-ol is a tertiary carbon

2. oxidation of alcohol by chromic acid distinguishes? if oxidation occurs, what classes
of compounds form?
3. aldehydes can be oxidized to form?

Potassium dichromate is an oxidizing agent .It can be used to oxidize alcohol to
produce carboxylic acd.

Mechanism:
alcohol--[O]-->aldehyde--[O] -->carboxylic acid

condition:
1.oxidizing agent in alkaline medium
2.H3O+ with heat

4. what is a functional group?

It determines the particular chemical & physical property of a compound and the type
of reaction which may take place
